Intertops betting players may be looking to satisfy their golf itch, and it can be scratched this week at the Australian Open at The Lakes in Sydney, and this year’s edition of a tournament that has been going since 1904. It has been dominated by Australians, as Geoff Ogilvy became the 12th Aussie in 13 years to win this event, but this year’s event will be in the spotlight with a very strong field due to the President’s Cup being played in Melbourne. Here are five players to watch this week.
Adam Scott (+700): Scott begins the Aussie train as the BetOnline favorite, and he has also won this event before, back in 2009. But that was played at New South Wales and Scott didn’t fare too well when the venue changed to The Lakes last year. Still, he has had a great year, especially with Stevie Williams as his caddy. Now, if he would only instruct his caddy to keep his mouth shut when it comes to former boss Tiger Woods (+1200).
Jason Day (+900): Day is another Aussie who had a great season highlighted by top-fives at the Masters and U.S. Open, and he ended the PGA season with two top-10s in his last three starts. Day will turn 24 during the third round of this tournament, and you can bet he would like to get himself a present in the form of a win.
Geoff Ogilvy (+1400): Also from Australia, Ogilvy won last year by four strokes, and pay per head players will see that he finished the PGA Tour on a high note with a third-place finish at the BMW Championship and a T-11 in the Tour Championship. He’ll be a veteran on the international team at the President’s Cup, and Ogilvy would love to show that he is a threat.
Dustin Johnson (+1500): Price per head sports fans will always give Johnson a chance because of his length and touch with his irons: it’s his putting that lets him down sometimes. Johnson has been up and down all season, and he followed his win at the Barclays by failing to break the top 20 in the last three events in the FedEx Cup.
Aaron Baddeley (+1800): Baddeley is the final Aussie on this list and a T-3 at the Tour Championship should give him some confidence. For the most part, Baddeley struggled for the first part of the season before coming around to play some good golf, good enough to get picked for the international team by captain Greg Norman. Like everyone else on this list, Baddeley wants a good showing to prove he belongs, and he could pay off for those looking for a darkhorse sports bet.
