Juevntus went ahead in Champions League Group H after unexpectedly beating Real Madrid 2-1 Tuesday. Captain Alessandro Del Piero leveled the home team in the 5th minute, with a decent strike from 25 yeard out which rendered Real goalkeeper Casilas unable to react. Striker Amauri made it 2-0 just after half-time. Ruud Van Nestelrooy put one back for the visitors midway through the second half. Juventus now tops Group H with 7 points, just one point ahead of Real Madrid while Bate and St. Zenit Petersburg sit in the bottom with just 2 and 1 point respectively.
According to AC Milan, England superstar David Beckham is scheduled to join the Italian Club on loan early next year. The England midfielder has agreed in terms with Milan and will start playing alongside other superstars like Ronaldinho and Kaka January 2009. 33 year-old Beckam, who is a former United and Real Madrid footballer, currently plays for MLS club LA Galaxy but is still seeking new heights in his career.. Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti on Beckham's soon to be transfer: "For me, it will be a pleasure. Beckham is a serious athlete, a great professional. If he'll be available for us, we'll be very happy."
Manchester City came away with one point after a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United. Referee Rob Styles had Newcastle defender Habib Beye sent off for tackling Robinho and a penalty given to City in the 13th minute. The Brazilian winger stood up and easily converted the spot kick. Shola Ameobi equalized for the home team after mistakes by City defender just before half-time. Richard Dunne scored an own goal after 62 minute, but Stephen Ireland managed to equalized with a pass from Robinho 5 minutes before full-time.
Rock-bottom Tottenham Hotspurs suffers sixth lost in eight League games losing 2-1 to second-from bottom Stoke City. Left back Gareth Bale was sent off after an error leaving him with no choice but to tackle Tom Soares from behind, inside the penalty area. Danny Higginbotham leveled the home team with the penalty in the 17th minute. 8 minutes later striker Darren Bent came with the equalizer after slipping the ball through goalkeeper Sorensen's leg. Rory Delap scored the second for the home team, while Fuller's penalty kick rattled the corssbar. Tottenham were down to 9 man as Michael Dawson was sent off with a straight red for fouling Mamady Sidibe right at full-time.
Liverpool has yet again making another spectacular comeback, this time against Wigan, from 1-2 down in half-time to 3-2 in full time. Wigan's best buy of the season, Amr Zaki gave his team the lead from a mistake by Daniel Agger in the 29th minute. But Agger made up for it by setting up Kuyt for his third goal in three matches 8 minutes later. Zaki leveled the visitors again with a stunning scissor-kick at half-time. Unfortunately, Midfielder Valencia was yellow carded for the second time in the 75th, and things started to change after Wigan was down to 10 man. Riera's equalizer came in the 80th minute, while Dirk Kuyt finally put Liverpool ahead with a scissor-kick of his own, 5 minutes before full-time.
Despite decent all round performance by Wales, Germany has proven to be the better side with a 1-0 over Wales. The World Cup qualifying match was held in Monchengladbach. Piotr Trochowski, the man from Hamburg, struck in the winner in the 72nd minute. Wales had a couple of fine chances too, including one from Craig Bellamy, and another from Chris Gunter but both of the Premier League player could not convert. Despite the loss, Wales manager Jorn Toshack was proud of his team. "Bad luck Wales, you performed admirably and have done Welsh football proud once again."
Team Engalnd now has three wins out of three of their World Cup qualifier after a convincing 5-1 victory against Kazakhstan, despite a goaless first-half from both sides. Rio Ferdinand put his team in front in the 52nd minute, heading in a corner. England's second came in the 65th, thanks to an own goal by Kuchma, but 3 minutes later teammate Kukeyev was able to put one in for Kazakhstan. Team England was hit by an injury to their main defender John Terry. The England and Chelsea captain will miss the World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan in Wembley this Saturday. 27-year old Terry was diagnosed with a back injury after playing in a Champions League ficture against Cluj. With Engalnd's captain out, manager Fabio Capello said that Man-U centre back Rio Ferdinand will be the one wearing the captain's arm band during the match. Nevertheless, Terry will be likely to return for the team to battle Belarus the coming Wednesday.
Cesc Fabregas salvaged a crucial point for Arsenal with a late equalizer against Sunderland in an EPL fixture yesterday. In the 86th minute, Sunderland's Grant Leadbitter struck the ball beautifully to beat goalkeeper Almunia and that was when the home team had the lead. Arsenal then pushed forward and launched waves of attacks trying to get an equalizer. Roy Keana's men almost had the 3 points on their hands, until the 90th minute when midfielder Cesc Fabregas headed in Van Persie's corner for the draw.
Manchester City attained a ticket into UEFA Cup Group Stage after defeating Greek side AC Omonia Nicosia by 2-1 in the 2nd leg. Two second-half goals by city players included a long-range effort by midfielder Elano in the 48th minute, and another one from point blank range by Wright-Phillips in the 55th. Alabi's late goal gave the visitors a consolation. City also took the 1st leg by 2-1 and thus they advanced with 4-2 on aggregate.
