Portsmouth 2-0 Tottenham

Portsmouth handed Tottenham its 4th EPL loss this season with a 2-0 win at home. Jermaine Defoe converted a penalty after a silly hand-ball by Jermaine Jenas in the 34th minute. Peter Crouch made it 2-0 through a header before midfielder Diarra was sent off upon receiving his second yellow late in the game. Tottenham is now winless in 6 Premier League games with only 2 points and sitting rock-bottom in the league table.

Fernando Torres Scores Twice Against Everton

Liverpool's EPL derby match against Everton went smoothly as Fernando Torres scored twice to hand his club a 2-0 victory. Both sides were scoreless through the first half, until the Spanish international gave Liverpool the lead in the 59th minute, as he hit in a brilliant pass from partner Robbie keane. 4 minutes later Torres flicked in his 3rd goal of the season. Everton's Tim Cahill was red carded in the 79th for tackling Xabi Alonso from behind.

Chelsea Signs Brazilian Miniero

Chelsea was hit with injuries to midfielders including Deco and Essien, and the latter is expected to be out for more than half a year. Consequently Brazilian midfielder Miniero was signed yesterday on a free transfer. The 33-year old Brazilian international's previous club was Hertha Berlin in Germany, where he had stopped playing at the end of last season.

"He is good positionally, a very good marker. He is a man that works for the other players and he is also a good man outside of the pitch," said Chelsea manager Scolari.

Roman Pavlyuchenko Revives Spurs

Tottenham Hotspurs are in the midst of a poor performance in EPL, while in Carling Cup, they were, surprisingly, playing well. The Spurs defeated Newcastle 2-1 away from home in a League Cup fixture yesterday to squeeze into the last 16. Impulsive signing Roman Pavlyuchenko headed in his first ever for Tottenham in the 62nd minute, whil Jamie O'Hara made it 2-0 after a costly error by a Newcastle defender. Michael Owen put one in for the home team in extra time.

Gerrard Leads Liverpool Pass Marseille

Liverpool grabbed their first points in UEFA Champions Legue Group D with a narrow win over Marseille. Lorik Cana scored the opener for the French side during a one-on-one situation against Pepe Reina, while Liverpool captain Steven Gerard equalized with a finely curled shot. winger Ryan Babel had a couple of decent chances but failed to convert them, but his effort paid off when he was tripped inside the box and a penalty was given. Gerard calmy send the opponent goalkeeper the wrong way and easily grabbed his second of the game.

Spurs Loses Again

Misery for Ramos and his team continues as the Spurs lost 1-2 to Aston Villa to get off to their worst ever Premier League start. Winless with 3 loss and a draw, the Spurs had new signing Roman Pavlyuchenko in the starting lineup, but Villa's defense kept him quiet. On the other hand, the visitors took the lead in just 4 minutes through Nigel Reo-Coker, and made it 2-0 after half-time courtesy of Ashley Young and a mistake by Spurs goalkeeper Gomes. Darren Bent scored a late goal for the home team before they were booed off by the angry fans as the match ended.

Chelsea Beats City Despite Robinho's Goal

Robinho had his first goal on his first try on goal for Manchester City. But it was not enough as Chelsea was too strong for them to handle and eventually City loses out 1-3. The Brazillian's goal came on the 13th minute through a 20-yeard free kick with left Chelsea goalkeeper Peter Cech startled. But 3 minutes later Carvalho equalized for the away team, then followed by goals from Lampard and Anelka to seal the victory. Captain John Terry was sent off before the match ended, for pulling down Jo from an apparent scoring opportunity.

Liverpool Stuns United

Liverpool climbs to the top spot of the table after beating rival Manchester United 2-1 at home. It was also Benitez's first ever Premier League win over the Red Devils. The away team took the lead through Carlos Teves just few minutes after the match commenced, courtesy of new signing Dimitar Berbatov. Later on, West Brown unwittingly scored an equalizing own goal for Liverpool. As Liverpool started to dominate, Ryan Babel sealed the victory through a goal which helped the team took the lead. Defender Nemanja Vidic was sent off with two yellow cards just before the end of the game.

Walcott Leads England's Revenge With Hat-Trick

Theo Walcott and Wayne Rooney led team England to a 4-1 over Croatia at Maksimir Stadium yesterday. Crotia, a team which has not bean beaten at home in any international match, were responsibled for England's early exit from Euro 2008 few months ago. The revenge was a success as Walcott, in just his second international game, had a hat-trick against the 10-men home team, while Wayne Rooney had his first in almost a year. Mario Mandzukic scored the only goal for Croatia.
