Argentina grabbed hold of the gold medal in Olympic men's football after beating rival Nigeria 1-0 under the hot sun. The same two team battled each other in the finals 12 years back, but it was Nigeria which took the first place. The temperature was at a red hot 42C at the Bird Nest Stadium in Beijing yesterday but it didn't stop Angel Di Maria, the player from Benfica, from scoring. A late goal in the women's football finals helped US pass Brazil to grab the event's Gold medal. Credit goes to Carli Lloyd, who scored the extra-time winner by striking in a 20-yard, off a pass from teamate Amy Rodriguez, six minutes into extra time. Jamaican bullet Usain Bolt has yet again set a world record while claiming another gold medal. The 21-year old topped the men's 200m event in an amazing 19.30 seconds, smashing the previous record at 19.32, made by Michael Johnson. Argentina will face Nigeria in the Olympic men's football finals after knocking out rivals Brazil 3-0 in the semis. Sergio Aguero scored the opening goal for Argentina on the 53rd minute, while his second came just before the 60th. Juan Riquelme's late penalty sealed the game. Nigeria has been assured at least a silver medal in men's football after the national team beat Belgium to 4-1 advance into the finals. Nigeria took the lead through Olubayo Adefemi , while Chinedu Ogbuke Obasi scored the next 2 goals, and Chibuzor Okonkwo hit the forth. Laurent Ciman scored the only goal for Belgium. Rafael Nadal defeated Fernando Gonzales from Chile to claim the men's singles gold medal. Nadal took the first ever gold in Olympic tennis for Spain after a 6-3, 7-6 and 6-2 win. "The Olympics means really a lot to me," he said. "I'm little bit sad about the match, but all things considered, I'm really happy." 22-year old Nadal, who had won 38 of his last 39 matches, will be taking over the number one in WTA ranking this Monday. Michael Phelps had won a record breaking eight gold medals in Beijing Olympics, after winning the 4X100m medley event. The 23-year old have surpassed legendary swimmer Mark Splitz, who held the previous record of most gold medals won in an Olympic at seven, 1972. Some credits would go to fellow American Aaron Peirsol, Brendan Hansen and Jason Lezak, who teamed up with Phelps in the match. Roger Federer's medal dream came alive again, after it was almost ruined losing in the men's single yesterday, as he and fellow countryman Stanislas Wawrinka won a crucial match in the men's double. The two managed to beat Indian pair Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi and sealed the quartel-finals match 6-2 and 6-4 on Friday.
