A Seagull that loves driving

In 2007, an ordinary Formula Vee race was held in Phoenix, on the Phoenix Park Race Track, was going on as planned, until at one moment, everyone on television was able to see a real seagull riding on one of the Formula Vee cars. Believe it or not, it was not a custom made part of the vehicle. A real seagull landed on Jimmy Furlong’s car. The questions are, did it affect its view? How long did it stay on the nose of his car? Was it all planed? Was the seagull male or female? Unfortunately, we do not know the end of the story, but you do not see a real seagull landing on someone’s car during a race very often, do you?

Probably that funny seagull just wanted to catch a ride with Jimmy; even birds can get tired sometimes. The commentator on the video makes it even more amazing, with his really enthusiastic commentary on that scene, just like commentating the event that happened few seconds later, we can see poor Robbie Allen hitting the chicane, but fortunately he was able to come out of his car alive and without injuries, with a possible fatal crash, where he even rolled few times and landed to the trees. Robbie was carried out of his car, and diagnosed only with some minor injuries to his hand and his right leg. His car was not as lucky as Robbie was, and ended up in pieces near the track.

Considering the race, the winner was John Stapleton (5:53:004), followed by Brian Kelly (5:53:883) and Jimmy Furlong (5:57:278). Obviously, having a seagull on your car, does not make you any slower, what can be seen by Furlong’s best result of the season. Dan Mulligan came fourth (6:00.921), followed by Michael Sweeney (6:00.964) on fifth place. 4 drivers were not able to finish the race.
